Have you heard of the rock painting and hunting trend that is taking over everywhere!? My kids and I hopped on the rock searching bandwagon a few weeks ago and have had the best time! Its been a great summer activity for us and a way for us to do something artsy and get outdoors and active all at once!
If you have not heard about it yet, think of it as basically new take on a scavenger hunt for kids. The general idea is that you gather rocks (either outdoors or by purchasing them – affiliate links used in post) and then paint and hide or “drop” them around town.
As others do the same, you go rock hunting and can find their rocks, re-hide them, connect with other rock hunters as they social share their finds and more! It was really simple to start and get involved with and its one of those things that people of all ages and skill levels can enjoy! I wanted to do a “Rock Hunting 101” post with how to’s and tips for any of you who have questions or want to play along!
For us, it got started when someone in my neighborhood emailed about it. Then, we were looking for an activity to do with the kids, rock hunting dawned on me and we were out one afternoon and picked up our supplies from Hobby Lobby and off we went. Within 24 hours, we were rock dropping professionals and certified rock hunters.
