Christmas was wonderful.
It was actually really, really, really great aside from the fact that we gave my parents the stomach bug and they had to miss coming over on Christmas Day for the second year in a row. We missed them, but knew that it would just mean getting to extend the celebration – and just that we did!
Leading into December with a packed calendar, I was intentional about getting a few things done early on. We had our tree up the first week of December, visited Santa early, was 90% finished with shopping two weeks before the actual day and my husband had a few days off where we just caught up on house stuff. He and I even went on a day date together to bowl and to leisurely walk the Target aisles. Santa did some shopping that day and I think its safe to say we enjoyed every facet of the holiday and time together!
Our kids are at fun ages and it was just the best. We have an elf named Christy that comes and leaves sweet notes or sassy notes for the kids every day. Christy the Elf was my fathers elf when he was a boy, my sisters and mine, and now he (she?) visits my kids. Christy occassionally leaves treats with the sweet notes too and always gives praise or constructive advice. The kids were really into Christy and Santa this year which was fun!
This year when we went to see Santa, since Annie M doesn’t yet know how to spell all of the words she needed to make everyones lists, she decided instead, she would draw pictures. She can write much neater but was doing it in the car, in the dark on the way to the mall….procrastinator much!?
Annie M had two lists. The first one in orange was hers and she requested a label maker and a bath for Cindy Lee – her doll. The second picture, I have no clue what she wanted. Her list is the bottom right and I think she wanted a ladder or something for Cindy Lee’s bunk bed and a potty….for Cindy Lee. What can I say, her dolls are well taken care of here at Casa de Train!
She made up the lists for the boys and in the first picture on the bottom left was Moose’s list where he wanted a train and a soccer ball and the right bottom image was for Brother where he wanted, “ALL THE BALLS IN THE WORLD!” HA! Thats really all he wanted….We told him he would probably get a few, but Santa would need to save some for other boys and girls!
The bottom left note is what Annie M made for my husband to request from Santa. It consisted of tools – which my husband was fine with. 😉
On Christmas morning, my Sister and her husband were over early to be there when the kids woke up. Annie M woke up first and so we went and got the boys for them all to come out together.
Santa brought each kid something musical, a bag for spend the nights and sports stuff, a book and a stable for all of them to share. They each have horses that they play with and Santa knew that they would all love a barn for their horses….again, well taken care of toys here!
Annie M got her bathtub for Cindy Lee and Moose decided to try it out for size. He was adorable all squished in there and I cant believe that my baby is so big! Sweet boy – and check out his spiderman slippers. Adorable and he never wants to take them off!
Brother got a bunch of balls from us, my in laws, and both boys got balls and soccer and basketball sets from my parents! They racked up! Other hit toys included the spiderman costume and the Flying Buzz Lightyear Toy. Yall, this thing is super cool, but tangles little girls hair and can torment dogs! Get one, but dont say I didn’t warn ya! 😉
We played with toys for most of the day, napped, spent the afternoon with Mimi and GrandDad and capped off Christmas night with a delicious smoked brisket. Thats my favorite and hubby was willing to make it after I botched last years Christmas meal. I pitched such a major fit over cooking this year (and how awful I am at it!) that he was willing to be in charge! It came out delicious and I appreciated his willingness to cook and Mimi’s help in bringing sides. I did the salad and sweet potatoes!
We had dessert and our Jesus birthday party, candles, the birthday song and all!
That night, a certain little someone was too excited to sleep and “just wanted to be snuggled” because, “I like you and I love you a lot.” Its adorable and makes me giggle all in one that he says that. He also says it a million times a day and at night likes to sneak up behind the couch and peer at me like such as he whimpers it. Melt my heart!
A few days later, we had Christmas at my parents. Annie M pulled out all of the turkey innards (gross!) and I will spare you the pictures. We did presents with Mom and Dad and then ate another feast. Dad made the largest pile of mashed potatoes for me and I could have eaten just that and been a happy camper.
Annie M got her label maker (because Santa talks to Grandparents and parents sometimes!) and also a pair of cowboy boots that she hasn’t taken off. The boys got all the sports stuff they could ever want thanks to Coach Gigi and G-Did!
I had asked my parents for a Pure Barre gift certificate and I am excited about getting to use that!
As soon as Christmas was over, I wanted the tree down and decor gone. I wanted the house back and I needed order. We still have a dining room table with ornaments on it to be sorted and carefully packed, but the house is almost back in order and I spent last week doing a fresh, new mantle. I love the new decor and cant wait to show you!
The holidays were great and many snuggles were had, naps by the light of the tree, family time spent and cheer spread. Annie M and I went on a girls date and went ice skating and then out for ice cream and we celebrated the life of our fourth baby who is now in heaven with Jesus. We celebrated Jesus and his love for us and we celebrated the best times of 2015!
2015 was truly a wonderful year and I look forward to all that 2016 has in store!
