Yall know that I am a “like to attempt to make it myself, wanna be crafty person.” Well, I want to show you my latest challenge and obsession! Cake and cookie decorating!
I am not sure if I am loving this because its cute and fun or because baking requires licking pans and taste testing….or maybe a bit of both, but regardless, I am having a blast with it.
When I was little, my Grandma made all of our Birthday cakes. We had Easter cakes, Christmas cakes, Thanksgiving cakes and really whenever we wanted and requested cakes. Grandma always had a cake and they always tasted the same and were fancy for the season or the event. I’ll have to get Dad and Mom to scan a few pictures of the cakes that she made, but believe you me, they were fancy and yummy.
Grandma passed on lots of her cake decorating tools to me and since then I have also added to my stash. I have a gazillion decorating tips, icing bags, and probably 50 cookie cutters and a few extra pans and little things like icing smoother outers.
Annie M’s birthday rolled around and she wanted a “Princess Ballerina” party. I need to recap the whole event, but on The Doughmestic Housewife’s Insta feed, I saw a picture of a ballerina cookie and that was my inspiration for the invited and from that the party. I enlisted my sister to help me when I made the cookies and cake and for moral support as this was my first big and real decorating attempt.
The same weekend that the question was being popped to my little sister, I was helping to host a wedding shower for a close friend. She had requested a cute little bridal cake and so I took that as an opportunity to try my hand at it!
