As for the menu, with it being an afternoon shower, we went with finger foods and light sandwiches that could be made fairly quickly. We had fruit, chicken salad on croissants, cucumber sandwiches, cheese and crackers, a corn dip with chips and petit fours. Nothing fancy, but yummy and plenty to go around. I have no idea what was in the punch, but it was good too and again, I just set a few books around it just for fun!

Megan did have a few gifts to open, but most everything consisted of books and gift cards. She took the time reading each of the notes written in the books and thanking everyone for their gifts. We aren’t really big baby shower game players so we just spent two hours chatting, eating, opening gifts and spending time with the guest of honor. The two hours flew by and before we knew it, everything was over.
A few other reasons why I loved this theme and shower were because it truly was simple but fun, the baby got lots of cute and fun books – which can be expensive and Megan and her hubby will be able to go out on a shopping spree and purchase their top items on their list. I also think its fun that her hubby will get to be a part of this by going out to spend the money with her and be involved in that part of the process.
…don’t get me wrong, I do love showers with lots of fun baby gear and gifts, but the gift card/books shower seemed so practical for an out of towner, made for easy and different decor and made for a fun way to make the hubby’s a part of it all!
