Most of you know I am a runner….or at least I try to be. Thanks to the accountability of my great Atlanta friends, I keep motivated.
For the past 5 years, we have run the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving day. This year we added the Birmingham half to our list of races to run and hopefully we will find a few more in the southeast to add to our list.
The course was fairly decent (meaning not too many hills) and I ran well for not being in shape. I walked a minute or two here and there, but over all, I was pleased. My most embarrassing moment occurred in the 11th mile where my foot cramped and I missed my step. I tripped and ate it and was flat out on the pavement. My knee was skinned up and my pride was the only thing that was hurt. It made for a good laugh later, however I was embarrassed by my fall and the attention it drew.
Anyway, we finished the race and were casually walking around when I received a text from one of my old college friends. It said, “I just saw you.” I was confused and figured he must have seen me on t.v. or something as I ran. After a few back and forth texts, I was on my way to search through the hundreds of people for my old friend.
All in all, it was a great time in Birmingham. Of course, here are the pictures of the Atlanta based running crew to commemorate the day!
Post race and all smiles! Our fearless leaders…and fastest, most in shape runners of us all! Jamie and Alec Alec and I – old college palsP.S. One down, two to go to complete one of these goals!
