Twas the night before Kindergarten, and all through the house,
the children were stirring, and even my spouse.
The backpack was packed by the front door with care,
trusting that soon the cheese wagon would be there.
The kids continued to bounce around like crazy,
while this old mama felt tired and hazy.
Gigi came over to help us out,
and we finally were ready for the big day, no doubt.
Bedtime rolled around and we sprinkled back to school magic,
and took a few pictures, as AM was ecstatic.
Her clothes were laid out and looked oh so fine,
Hip, hip, hooray for the Class of 2029!
We headed to sleep with excitement ahead,
and set multiple alarms – to make sure we got out of bed.
When late in the eve showed up Brother Bear,
We knew we’d be up all night, and pulling out our hair.
He gave no care that we’d be up by dawn,
and continued to play without such a yawn.
Heartburn in my chest and anxiety too,
the alarms finally went off, and to the kitchen I flew.
The hubs had overslept and had a late start,
and Annie M popped out of bed like a flying pop tart.
Dressed, lunch ready and looking her best,
we were ready to launch our bird from the nest.
To the bus stop we went, all escorting her with glee,
we tried not to cry, as with joy she did flee.
The parents cheered loudly for our superheroes,
and reminded them to do their work, so they wouldn’t get zeros.
The first few weeks have gone without a hitch,
And we are slowly but surely, finding our niche.
New friends are abounding, and we’ve had our first sick call,
It’s been a great start and a happy school year for all!
